COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Life Cycle Assessment course teaches the methodology of Life Cycle Assessment for the environmental evaluation of process and products. It covers life-cycle materials and energy inventories, evaluation and allocation of impacts indicators, comparative LCA assessment, indicators uncertainty analysis, and impacts reduction strategies.
LCA CASE STUDY
The guiding thread of the course is a Life Cycle Assessment of the bioethanol fuel from sugar beets. The project objective is to evaluate the ethanol indicators for eight impacts related to resources consumption, air and water emissions. The bioethanol life cycle involves the steps of farming, industrial transformation, transports and ethanol combustion
